Budget Speech
Bracket creep hits low- to middle-income earners: The Finance Minister opting to raise additional personal income tax by not adjusting the personal income tax brackets (commonly referred to as bracket creep).
Two-Pot Retirement System (Set for 1 September 2024): One-third of the contributions will be credited to a “savings component” and the remaining two-thirds to a “retirement component”. The main idea is to promote the preservation of retirement fund savings until retirement, while also providing investors with access to savings in times of need.
4Sight Holdings Limited (4SI:JSE)
Revenue grew by 34.9%.
Operating profit grew by 70.6%.
HEPS grew by 127.8%.
Northam Platinum Holdings Limited (NPH:JSE)
HEPS is expected to decline by between 87.5% and 97.5%.
Sibanye Stillwater Limited (SSW:JSE)
Year-on-year decline of over 100% and 90% to 91% in EPS and HEPS, respectively.
Significant decline in profitability due to lower average metal prices (excluding gold) in 2023.
Recognized impairments of R47,454 million (US$2,576 million) due to operational repositioning, cost increases, and other factors at various operations.
Caxton and CTP Publishers and Printers (CAT:JSE)
HEPS is expected to decrease between 4,1% and 8,5%.
EPS is expected to decrease between 27,6% and 31.3%.
The material decline in earnings per share was largely attributable to the profit on the sale of Private Property South Africa Proprietary Limited (R78,9 million) for the half year ended 31 December 2022, as opposed to a loss on the disposal of the investment in Novus Holdings Limited (R45.2 million) in the current year.
